Conserved cosmological perturbations

چکیده

A conserved cosmological perturbation is associated with each quantity whose local evolution is determined entirely by the local expansion of the Universe. It may be defined as the appropriately normalised perturbation of the quantity, defined using a slicing of spacetime such that the expansion between slices is spatially homogeneous. To first order, on super-horizon scales, the slicing with unperturbed intrinsic curvature has this property. A general construction is given for conserved quantities, yielding the curvature perturbation ζ as well as more recently-considered conserved perturbations. The construction may be extended to higher orders in perturbation theory and even into the nonperturbative regime. Typeset using REVTEX

On the conservation of second-order cosmological perturbations in a scalar field dominated universe

We discuss second-order cosmological perturbations on super-Hubble scales, in a scalar field dominated universe, such as during single field inflation. In this contest we show that the gauge-invariant curvature perturbations defined on the uniform density and comoving hypersurfaces coincide and that perturbations are adiabatic in the large scale limit. Since it has been recently shown that the ...

Evolution of second-order cosmological perturbations

We present a method for constructing gauge-invariant cosmological perturbations which are gaugeinvariant up to second order. As an example we give the gauge-invariant definition of the second order curvature perturbation on uniform density hypersurfaces. Using only the energy conservation equation we show that this curvature perturbation is conserved at second order on large scales for adiabati...

Long wavelength limit of evolution of cosmological perturbations in the universe where scalar fields and fluids coexist

We present the LWL formula which represents the long wavelengh limit of the solutions of evolution equations of cosmological perturbations in terms of the exactly homogeneous solutions in the most general case where multiple scalar fields and multiple perfect fluids coexist. We find the conserved quantity which has origin in the adiabatic decaying mode, and by regarding this quantity as the sou...

Validity of the ‘Conservation Law’ in the Evolution of Cosmological Perturbations

It is shown that the ‘conservation law’ for metric fluctuations with long wavelengths is indeed applicable for growing modes of perturbations, which are of interest in cosmology, in spite of a recent criticism (Grishchuk 1996). This is demonstrated both by general arguments, and also by presenting an explicitly solvable toy model for the evolution of metric perturbations during inflation.

Cosmological Perturbations from Cosmic Strings ∗

Some aspects of the theory of cosmological perturbations from cosmic strings and other topological defects are outlined, with particular reference to a simple example: a spatially flat CDM-dominated universe. The conserved energy-momentum pseudo-tensor is introduced, and the equation for the density perturbation derived from it. It is shown how the scaling hypothesis for defect evolution result...
